Family : Lebiasinidae
Origin : Amazon river, Rio Negro Brazil
Length : 5 cm - 2"
Min. length aquarium : 60 cm - 25"
English names : Three-Striped Pencilfish, Tube-mouthed Pencilfish
Peaceful, somewhat shy schooling fish that you should keep together with other peaceful fishes.  The water quality is very important.  The water should be acid and very soft.  The aquarium should be planted well to provide hiding places, but not too densely because you will never see the fish at all.  Some floating plants are appreciated as well.

You should give them small live food.  Small dry food is accepted as well.  You should feed them not too early because they get active in the twilight.

Breeding is not easy.  The water should be extremely soft and rather acid (Ph6).  The breeding aquarium should be set up with a spawning grid because they eat their own eggs, and a spawning mop.  After spawning the parents should be removed.  After 1-3 days the eggs hatch.  When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with very fine infusoria and dustfood.
