Family : Lebiasinidae
Origin : Guyanas, middle Amazon river
Length : 6,5 cm - 2.5"
Min. length aquarium : 80 cm - 30"
English names : Beckford's Pencilfish , Golden Pencilfish
Peaceful schooling fish that can be kept together with lively fishes as well.  They are suited for every community aquarium without predatory fishes.  The aquarium should be planted densely.  A dark substrate and a dimmed light bring out the colours of the fish.

You should give them small live food.  Dry food is accepted as well.

Breeding is not easy.  The water should be soft and acid and the aquarium should be darkened.  They are not very productive.  The eggs are laid and fertilized in a perlon spawning mop.  After spawning the parents should be removed.  The eggs hatch after 1-3 days.  When the young fishes are swimming free you can feed them with dustfood such as paramecia and rotifers.
