Length : 8 cm - 3"
Min. length aquarium : 100 cm - 40"
English name : Congo Dwarf Cichlid
Males of this fish are rather aggressive to each other, but they are peaceful to females.  The aquarium should be set up with stones, driftwood and roots, and however the fish digs in the substrate sometimes, you can use some plants for decoration as well.  You should use a substrate of fine gravel.  A dimmed light by using floating plants bring out the colours of the fish.  Clear water is appreciated.  A territory is made.

You should give them small live food.  Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.

Breeding is rather easy.  Up to 100 eggs are laid and fertilized in a cave.  The female cares for the fry and the male defends the territory fanatic.  After about a week the young fishes appear.  Now the male cares for them as well.  You can raise them with baby brine shrimp and a few days later with small Cyclops and fine crushed dry food.
