Towards their own species males are extremely aggressive.
If you want to keep more males you should have a large
aquarium with enough holes. Several females make a
small territory within the territory of the male. The
aquarium should be set up with rocks and stones that form
caves and crevices. You can use some plants as well. They are omnivorous but they prefer live food such as mosquito larvae. Breeding is not difficult. The eggs are laid and fertilized in a cave. The female takes care of the eggs. After hatching the young fishes stay several days in the cave. The male defends the territory. After a new spawning young fishes may stay in the territory until they have the length of about 4 cm (1.5"). |
