A peaceful fish outside of spawning times. The
aquarium should be decorated with substrate of fine gravel
and a lot of rocks that form caves and crevices. Some hard
plants can be used for decoration as well. The
aquarium should have large open areas for free-swimming.
They can be combined with other cichlids from Lake
Tanganyika such as Julidochromis and other (Neo)Lamprologus.
A territory is made. You should give them small snails. After habituation Artemia and dry food are accepted as well. Breeding is not difficult with a good matching couple. The best way is to raise a group of about 6 unrelated juveniles to sexual maturity and allow them to pair off. They make a territory. They drive all other fishes out of that territory. Up to 200 eggs are laid and fertilized in a cave. Both parents defend the fry. When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with baby brine shrimp. |
