In breeding times this fish has a very large territory and he is extremely aggressive.  You should keep one female together with several females.  The tank should be decorated with  substrate of fine gravel and a lot of rocks that form caves and crevices.  They can be kept together with other fishes of equal size.  Smaller fish will likely be seen for food and consumed.

You should give them powerful live food such as small fish and shrimp.

Breeding is not difficult.  The eggs are laid and immediately after that the female takes the eggs in her mouth.  They are fertilized by the male using the dummy egg method.  The young fishes can be raised with baby brine shrimp.
