Family : Adrianichthyidae

Min. length aquarium : 5 cm - 20"
English names : Indian medaka, Java medaka
This small, peaceful schooling fish should be kept with at least 10 fishes.  The aquarium should be planted densely on the sides and background.  Some floating plants and a sandy substrate are appreciated.  They are sensitive for lower temperatures.  Some sources say it is wise to add some salt to the water, but probably that is harmful to them.

You should give them live food.  Dry food is accepted as well.

Breeding is not easy.  A breeding aquarium should be set up with fine leaved plants and should stand on a sunny spot. During fourteen days they spawn about 40 eggs every day.  Because the parents eat their own eggs the eggs should be removed to a separate aquarium with a low water level with very soft water.
