When you keep this fish in an aquarium that is not large
enough he gets very aggressive. You should keep them as
a pair. It is wise to buy 6 young animals and after a
while a matching couple forms. The other fishes should
be removed. You should set up the aquarium with stones,
driftwood and roots that form caves and hiding places.
A territory is made. A dimmed light is appreciated.
You can keep them together with large cichlids and catfish. You should give them large, powerful food like small fish, lobster and shrimp. With a good matching couple breeding is easy. Up to 1000 eggs are laid and fertilized. Both parents defend the fry fanatical. After 3 days the eggs hatch. When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with Artemia-nauplii. |
