Origin : Lake Tanganyika

Min. length aquarium : 120 cm - 50"
You should keep this peaceful fish in a large school of at least 10 fish together with other peaceful fish.. The aquarium should be set up with rocks and stones that form caves and crevices. Hard plants can be used for decoration as well.  In the middle you should leave enough free swimming space.  The light should be dimmed because too much light makes them shy.

You should give them small live food such as Artemia and Cyclops.  Frozen and dry food is accepted as well.

Breeding is not difficult.  The eggs are laid near by a vertical rock.  After that the male produces a continuous stream of sperm in the direction of the female, thus fertilising the eggs.  The female takes the eggs in her mouth for about 3 weeks.  After that period the young fish leave the mouth of the mother.  You can feed them with baby brine shrimp.
