You should keep this fish as a couple. During breeding
time they will become somewhat aggressive to other fish.
The aquarium should be planted on the sides and background
densely and set up with driftwood and roots that form hiding
places and caves. In the middle you should leave a
large open swimming area.
They are omnivorous. You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food. Breeding is easy. 40-150 eggs are laid and fertilized in a cave. The female cares for the eggs and the larvae. The male defends the territory. When the young fishes have left the cave, the male cares for them as well. They are sensitive for infusoria. You can raise them with baby brine shrimp. |
