Peaceful. lively schooling fish that is suited for a small
community aquarium. You should not keep them together
with aggressive species. The aquarium should be
planted densely on the sides and background with fine leaved
plants. In the middle you should leave enough free swimming
space. Some floating plants and a dark substrate bring
out the colours of the fish. A strong streaming of the
water is appreciated. You should cover the aquarium
very well because they are good jumpers. You should give them live food. Occasionally dry food is accepted as well. Breeding is not easy. The water should be very soft and acid. The eggs are laid and fertilized between the roots of the plants. They are very sensitive for fungus. After 3 weeks the eggs hatch. When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with very fine infusoria such as paramecia and rotifers. |
