You should keep this peaceful schooling fish in a special
aquarium together with other small rainbowfishes. The
aquarium should be densely planted on the sides and
background. In the middle you should leave enough free
swimming space. A dimmed light by using floating
plants brings out the colours of the fish. During
breeding time males of this species are rather aggressive.
You should give them small live food. Frozen and dry food are accepted as well. Breeding is not easy. You need a male and several females. The eggs are laid and fertilized between fine leaved plants such as javamoss. After spawning the parents should be removed immediately because they eat their eggs. After 20-25 days the eggs hatch. When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with very fine infusoria and dustfood such as paramecia and rotifers. |
