Family : Lebiasinidae
Origin : Peru
Length : 8 cm - 3"
Min. length aquarium : 100 cm - 40"
Peaceful fish that you can keep in a group in a community aquarium.  Only in breeding time they are somewhat aggressive.  The aquarium should be planted densely with broad leaved plants that reach the surface.  A dimmed light by using floating plants where they can hide is appreciated.  You should cover the aquarium well because they are very good jumpers.

You should give them small water insects that float on the surface such as fruit flies.  Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.

Breeding is not easy.  The eggs are laid and fertilized on a leaf just below the water surface.  After spawning the female should be removed.  The male cares for the fry.  After one day the male should be removed as well.  At that moment the eggs hatch and another 2 days later the young fishes swim free.  You can raise them with infusoria and a few days later with baby brine shrimp.
