Peaceful schooling fish for a large community aquarium
together with other peaceful fishes. The aquarium
should be planted densely on the sides and background.
In the middle you should leave a lot f free swimming space.
For further decoration you can use some driftwood and roots.
A dark substrate and a regular changing of the water are
appreciated. They are omnivorous and they eat a lot. You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food. A part of the food should be vegetable. Breeding is not difficult. You should set up the breeding aquarium with fine leaved plants and a thick layer of marbles. You can use a spawning grid as well. It is not wise to breed with animals that are too young. The female should stay for a while in the breeding aquarium. One evening you can put the male with the female. The next morning a few hundred eggs are laid and fertilized. After spawning the parents should be removed. After 24 hours the eggs hatch. When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with fine crushed dry food. |
