This rather peaceful fish is only during breeding times aggressive to species of their own kind.  A territory is made.  He digs a lot in de substrate so it is wise to use only strong, hard plants on the sides and to anchor them very well.  They like warm water.  At temperatures below 27°C (81°F) they get very sensitive for diseases.  You should keep them together with other species that are not too aggressive.

You should give them live food.  Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.

about breeding not much is known.  I have found just a few reports of a successful breeding.  The fishes dig a pit and up to 200 eggs are laid and fertilized on the bottom of the aquarium.  After that the eggs were buried.  After a few days the eggs were brought to another place and buried again.  A few days later the young fishes were seen above the nest.  When they were in danger they dived into the substrate again.
