Rather peaceful, somewhat shy fish that can be kept together
with species of their own kind, when the aquarium is large
enough. The substrate should be sandy because they
look after food in the substrate. The aquarium can be
planted with large hard plants, stones and roots. You
should leave enough free swimming space. You should give them small live food that can be picked from de bottom such as small worms and mosquito larvae. Breeding is rather easy. The eggs are laid and fertilized on a substrate (for instance a flat stone or a leaf). Both parents take care of the eggs. After 24 hours the eggs hatch. The parents take the larvae in their mouth. There they stay until they can swim free. When they are in danger they go back in the mouth of the parents again. |
