Family : Cichlidae
Origin : Brazil
Length : 7 cm - 2.8"
Min. length aquarium : 80 cm - 30"
English name : Torpedo Dwarf Cichlid
Males of this species are rather aggressive to each other and they even attack  larger intruders of their territory.  You should keep one male with 3-4 females and the aquarium should be large enough.  The aquarium should be set up with driftwood and roots and densely planted because they need hiding places.  You can keep them with small characins so the males are busy to defend the territory and as a result the females get less aggression.

You should give them small live food such as cyclops and mosquito larvae.

Breeding is not difficult when you have the right water conditions.  Up to 60 eggs are laid and fertilized in a cave.  The female cares for the fry and the male defends the territory.  After 2-3 days the eggs hatch and another 6 days later the young fishes are swimming free.  You can raise them with baby brine shrimp.
