They are rather peaceful to other species, but very
aggressive to species of their own kind. It is wise to
keep one male together with several females, so this
aggression can be divided. The aquarium should be set
up on the sides and background with stones and rocks that
form caves and crevices where they can hide. In the
middle you should leave a lot of free swimming space.
The substrate should be sandy. Some plants can be used
for decoration as well. They are omnivorous. You should give them a great variety of live, frozen and dry food. Breeding is rather easy. The eggs are laid and fertilized in a previously made breeding pit. Immediately after that the female takes the eggs in her mouth and she retreats behind the rocks to incubate the eggs during 3-4 weeks. When the young dishes are swimming free you can raise them with baby brine shrimp and fine crushed dry food. |
