Because this fish is a real predator you can not keep them together with fishes that are too small.  They think it is food and they will eat them.  The aquarium should be very large.  The aquarium should be decorated with on the sides and background with a lot of rocks and stones that form caves and crevices.  Some well anchored plants can be used as well.  A sandy substrate and a lot of free swimming space are necessary.  A regular changing of the water and a good filter are appreciated.

You should give them large live food such as fishes and insect larvae.  Dry food is accepted as well.

Breeding is rather easy.  Up to 150 eggs are laid and fertilized.  After that the female takes the eggs in her mouth immediately for further incubation.  It is wise to move the female to a separate aquarium.  When the young fishes are swimming free the female cares for them a very long time.  The young fishes accept all kind of food very quick.
