Family : Poeciliidae
Origin : Mexico
Length : 7 cm - 2.8"
Min. length aquarium : 80 cm - 30"
English names : Mountain swordatail, Nezzie Swordtail, Northern Mountain Swordtail
Males of this fish are rather aggressive to each other.  To other fishes they are peaceful.  The aquarium should be planted densely on the sides and background.  In the middle you should leave enough free swimming space.  A powerful filter is appreciated.  They are sensitive for nitrate, a regular changing of the water is necessary.

They are omnivorous but they prefer mosquito larvae.  Frozen and dry food are accepted as well.  A part of the food should be vegetable.

Breeding is not difficult.  They are viviparous and every 4 weeks 10 to 40 young fishes are born.  When the parents are fed well they don't chase the young fishes.  You can raise them with fine crushed dry food.
